Over the past few weeks, our College community has had much to celebrate. Two of our student teams have received very special honours that recognise something far deeper than performance alone. Our Primary Wakakirri team was awarded the Spirit of Wakakirri Award, while our Tournament of the Minds Senior Girls Team received the prestigious Spirit of TOM Award. These are significant achievements because they are not awarded to the team that simply scores the highest or wins the competition. Instead, they recognise the character, attitude and values demonstrated throughout the journey.

In a culture that often places great emphasis on results, these awards remind us of an important truth: success is not only measured by what we achieve, but by who we become in the process. At 麻豆区, our vision is to be鈥渁 Christ-centred learning community that inspires and equips students to build purposeful lives.鈥� These recent awards are a powerful affirmation that we are pursuing this vision well and seeing it lived out in the attitudes and actions of our students.

The Spirit Awards celebrate qualities such as kindness, humility, perseverance, encouragement, teamwork and respect. They recognise students who compete with integrity, support one another wholeheartedly, and treat others with dignity, whether they are teammates, competitors, adjudicators or audience members. These are qualities that reflect our commitment to being a community that seeks to Love God and Love Others, and they are qualities that we hope will remain with our students long after the applause has faded and the trophies have been put away.

As we continue to develop the identity of the Norwest Knight, these awards provide a wonderful picture of what that looks like in practice. A Norwest Knight is not defined solely by achievement, talent or success. Rather, a Knight demonstrates courage in action, service with purpose, faith at the centre, and a commitment to honouring others. A Knight understands that representing the College is about more than personal accomplishment; it is about reflecting Christ through character, humility and genuine care for those around them.

Jesus taught that the greatest commandments are to 鈥�Love the Lord your God with all your heart鈥� and to 鈥�Love your neighbour as yourself鈥� (Matthew 22:37-39). He later challenged His followers, saying, 鈥淟ove one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another鈥� (John 13:34). These verses sit at the heart of Christian community and provide a clear picture of the kind of people we seek to develop.

What makes these achievements particularly encouraging is that they affirm the direction we are heading as a College. We certainly want our students to pursue excellence and strive to be their very best. However, our deeper goal is to see them develop into young people of faith, wisdom, virtue and service who use their gifts to honour God and bless others. The Spirit of Wakakirri and Spirit of TOM Awards suggest that this formation is taking place. They show us that our students are not only learning, performing and competing well; they are becoming the kind of Norwest Knights our community hopes to cultivate.

Congratulations to all students and staff involved. These awards are a wonderful reminder that some of the most meaningful victories are not measured by scores or rankings, but by the character we display and the people we are becoming.
